Poppy: A Small Look Into Embracing Calla

A look into the romance novel Embracing Calla

“Her eyes are blue, but small flecks of Calla’s green eyes peek around her irises. Same mouth, but no scar. Same cheeks, but overly made up. Same hair, but instead of a beautiful ginger, it’s a light, warm brown; in this light, it has a faint tint of red in it. I’ve stared at Rose this closely, and yes, they look incredibly alike, but Poppy looks like Calla’s inside her trying to get out.” -Benedict

“She opens the door and walks in and the world has gone in slow motion. Poppy is like a Miss Congeniality montage on replay. Perfect in every way, not a hair out of place. Designer clothes tightly stretch over the belly that she loves to rub in my face. I really don’t want her in my office.” -Calla

“Who wears a full face of makeup with a smokey eye to therapy? Right, she has no soul. So, no worries that tears might make her caked-on perfection crack.” -Calla

“I want you to know that I’m truly sorry for everything I’ve said and done to you. I was wrong about everything, and I want nothing more than to be sisters again.” -Poppy

“I make stupid jokes to help myself cope. I’m sorry.” She takes me by the hand. “I have nothing. I finally found the marriage license, and did you know it’s going to cost me $30,000 plus? The lawyer bills by the hour, and since Luka is who he is, he’s going to take his dear sweet time racking up the bill that he knows I can’t afford.” -Poppy

“Great, you can pick everything out to feel like the baby is yours.” -Poppy
