Luka: Gaslighting or Plot Holes?

Embracing Calla presents a compelling narrative that dives deep into the essence of perception and misunderstanding of human relationships. I’d like to share a tidbit about Luka, exploring the nuances that make him both compelling and complex.

When something is so good it confuses the editor:

In the first draft, I had it where you didn’t find out Luka was a narcissist until Benedict found out. When I had it edited for the first time my editor kept pointing out all the “plot holes.” They weren’t exactly plot holes they were Luka’s gaslighting.

It was a lot of “Earlier, we heard from Calla that she found out for herself when she saw Poppy. This contradicts that.” And then I pinch the bridge of my nose thinking This is Luka’s side and he’s inconsistent, so he can tell Benedict whatever he wants.

It was every time Luka spoke to anyone, so I thought about it. I wondered if this was confusing the editor this much. Was it going to confuse everyone else? So I changed it to where you almost immediately know it’s Luka and you can watch Benedict struggle.

That was my main emphasis of the duel POV’s you know what’s going on through Calla, but since she doesn’t tell Benedict you watch him try to figure it out, and spoiler, he doesn’t figure it out.

You also get to see Calla struggle with wanting happiness so bad she can taste it. Luka just knows how to crush her dreams. He knows how to manipulate her without even trying that hard.

Calla wonders why this isn’t affecting Poppy, considering Luka is in her life as well. He is affecting her just not until book 3.

In conclusion:

I understand that some changes are meant to happen. It was a process to understand that sometimes my mind, written down is a little confusing.
