Finding Balance of the Heart
Embracing Calla presents a compelling narrative that dives deep into the essence of perception and misunderstanding of human relationships. I’d like to share a tidbit about Sebastian, exploring the nuances that make him both compelling and complex.
Finding balance:
Sebastian is that typical heartthrob who once was a player. Finding the joy in sex not love at a young age, where Benedict only wanted love and not necessarily sex.
Sebastian is not shy whatsoever. In a way Calla is when it comes to conversations about intimacy, except she gets paid to talk sex. Sebastian just talks.
Things change, of course, when he finds his match. He starts to want the ooey-gooey like Benedict. Confusing his feelings of love for some sort of disease when he comically thinks turning into Benedict is a bad thing.
Ironically Benedict thinks wanting to have sex with someone is a Sebastian thing so when he just wants Calla in ways he never thought before, he too, thinks he’s turning into Sebastian.
This points out that passion and intimacy go hand in hand. They are like peanut butter and jelly. Sebastian and Benedict each choose one extreme over the other making when things become balanced they think they’re weird. Something must be wrong with them.
In conclusion:
When writing this novel I wanted to have true issues entwined within and I love to foil. Not only do you see that with Sebastian and Benedict… you see it with a lot of the characters within the book.
